How to Keep Up With AI News Without Losing Your Mind
Every week brings a dozen "game-changing" AI announcements. Most are not. Here is the filter system we use to write this site without drowning.
Three tiers of news
- Shipped — a model or feature you can use today. This is the only tier that matters daily.
- Demoed — a video or blog post about something you cannot touch yet. Interesting, not news.
- Promised — roadmaps and funding rounds. Context, not headlines.
Most outlets blur these tiers because "game-changing demo" outperforms "useful update shipped". Do not let them.
Sources worth a daily check
Official changelogs and research blogs beat secondhand summaries every time. One good aggregator (hi) plus the primary sources is a complete diet. Doom-scrolling seventeen hot takes adds heat, not light.
The vaporware smell test
Benchmarks without names, demos without dates, "up to" numbers doing heavy lifting — classic patterns. When a claim matters to you, wait a week: real releases pick up independent reviews, vaporware picks up silence.
We sort every story on this site into those tiers — check the Models feed for what actually shipped this week.
